Flight Control & State Estimation Engineer (m/f/d)

Introduction

About the Role

Our new flight-control system is already alive and flying. Now we want to make it faster, sharper and more capable.

Why Join Quantum-Systems?

About us:

Quantum Systems specializes in the development, design, and production of small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS). The company’s range of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) sUAS are built to maximize range and versatility and to provide operators with a seamless user experience. By integrating cutting-edge software capabilities, like edge computing and real-time AI-powered data processing, Quantum Systems is building next-generation UAS for clients in the defense, security, and public sectors.

What is your Day to Day Mission:

As our Flight Control & State Estimation Engineer, you will push the performance of our interceptor to the next level. You will improve how precisely it estimates its state, how quickly it reacts and how aggressively it can operate without compromising stability or robustness.

From advanced estimation and control algorithms to embedded Rust optimization and flight-test analysis, your work will have a direct and measurable impact on aircraft performance.

• Improve state estimation using Kalman filters, particle filters and other advanced estimation methods.
• Fuse IMU, radar, camera and ToF data into robust vehicle and target-state estimates.
• Increase the accuracy of velocity and position estimation in GPS-denied environments.
• Optimize sensor filtering, synchronization, outlier rejection and latency compensation.
• Develop and tune flight-control algorithms for maximum agility, precision and stability.
• Identify real flight dynamics from recorded data and use them to improve models, estimators and controllers.
• Improve sensor and vehicle models used in simulation, SIL and HIL environments.
• Profile and optimize flight-critical Rust code for deterministic execution and minimum latency.
• Analyze flight-test data, identify performance limits, and turn every flight into the next improvement.

What You Bring to the Team

You do not need to cover every discipline equally. We are looking for deep expertise in either state estimation or flight control, and the ability to understand their interaction as one complete system.

• Strong foundations in control theory, state estimation, sensor fusion or flight dynamics.
• Hands-on experience with Kalman filters, nonlinear estimation or probabilistic filtering.
• Experience designing and tuning controllers for highly dynamic systems.
• Strong implementation skills in Rust, C++ or another systems programming language.
• An understanding of real-time execution, numerical stability, sensor timing and latency.
• Experience with simulation, system identification, flight-log analysis or flight testing.
• The drive to challenge existing performance limits, test ideas quickly and keep iterating until the data proves the improvement.

We offer

• Be at the forefront of next-generation Defence innovation .
• Work in a fast-paced, agile environment where your ideas make an impact.
• Collaborate with a team of industry pioneers who are ambitious, bold, and visionary.
• Opportunities for individual and professional growth in a globally recognized organization.
