Your team

You will be part of the Digital Euro Service Platform Division in the Directorate Digital Euro, which is part of the Directorate General Market Infrastructure and Payments.

Our Directorate is responsible for leading the digital euro project. It supports the digital euro governance bodies in steering, controlling and monitoring the project. It also oversees all project workstreams and manages the scope, budget and resources approved by the Governing Council.

Our Division is responsible for the functional architecture and delivery of the digital euro service platform, as well as preparations for its future operation.

In your role as Market Infrastructure Expert, you will be part of the functional development coordination and integration team, which has about 20 members of staff responsible for the functional architecture and delivery of the digital euro service platform. You will also work closely with the teams preparing the platform’s technical architecture and future operation.

The ECB is an inclusive employer and we strive to reflect the diversity of the population we serve. We encourage you to apply irrespective of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, race, religious beliefs, sexual orientation or other characteristics.

Your role

As a Market Infrastructure Expert, you will:

• drive engagement and collaboration with stakeholders, cross-functional teams or providers to identify requirements, align priorities and co-create innovative solutions;
• steer the development of a robust and comprehensive back-end design for the digital euro service platform in collaboration with the project team;
• lead the establishment and maintenance of product backlogs, business flows and functional/technical implementation specifications to shape and drive the successful development of the digital euro.

For this role we are seeking candidates who demonstrate potential for growth, and we will support the selected candidate in developing any further skills required. We actively support professional development for our staff. Besides learning opportunities such as training and mentoring, we encourage and support horizontal mobility after some years in the same position.

The position offers you an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a digital form of central bank money designed to be a new, universally accepted digital payment method that complements physical cash.

You will be part of a multicultural team that strives for continuous innovation to make a positive impact on the lives of European citizens.

Qualifications, experience and skills

Essential:

• a master’s degree or equivalent in business administration, computer science, economics, engineering, information systems, project management or another relevant field (see How you can join us for details on degree equivalences);
• in addition to the above, at least four years’ professional experience (other than as an intern or trainee) in product or solution management for payments implementation projects or large-scale financial infrastructure (e.g. bank systems, clearing and settlement platforms or payment schemes);
• a track record in defining backlogs of requirements for the development of payment solutions or infrastructure, or in translating high-level business requirements into business flows, implementation guidelines or functional/technical specifications;
• a sound understanding of payment solutions or infrastructure;
• proven analytical skills and experience in drafting clear and concise product management documentation;
• an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Desired:

• experience of working with technical providers of payment solutions or market infrastructures, including on designing or developing payment settlement processes and dedicated cash accounts or offline payments;
• experience in the functional design of payment solutions with RESTful application programming interfaces.

You engage collaboratively with others. You pursue team goals and learn willingly from other people’s diverse perspectives. You signal any need for change by explaining it and proposing alternative solutions. You analyse complex information effectively and can evaluate different views to arrive at solutions. You know and anticipate stakeholder needs.

You are motivated to contribute to the ECB’s mission, to serve the citizens of the EU as a member of a public institution and to work with colleagues from all over Europe.

You are aware of your strengths and areas for development and know what motivates you to perform at your highest level.

Working modalities

We would be happy to discuss a part-time arrangement for this role.
