Internships & working students at Hypersonica

Build what most people think is impossible.

Hypersonica is building sovereign European hypersonic capability.

We are developing technologies that sit at the edge of what is currently possible, and we are doing it with small, talent dense teams of exceptional people.

Our culture takes inspiration from the operating philosophy behind Skunk Works. Small teams. Exceptional talent. High trust. Minimal bureaucracy. The freedom, tools and responsibility to solve problems that have not been solved before.

We are looking for interns who want to work in that environment.

The Opportunity

This is not an internship where you spend three months shadowing someone, preparing slides or waiting to be given something meaningful to do.

You will work alongside some of the best engineers and operators in Europe on real problems connected to real hardware and real programmes.

Depending on your background, that could mean contributing to areas such as:

• Engineering, propulsion, aerodynamics, structures, materials, avionics, GNC, software, electronics, manufacturing, test, quality, simulation, data or operations.

The exact problem matters less than how you approach it.

You will be given responsibility early, expected to think independently and encouraged to challenge assumptions.

If you see a better way of doing something, we want to hear it.

Who we are looking for

We are not simply looking for the highest grades. We are looking for people with exceptional potential. People who are deeply curious. People who ask why something has to be done a certain way. People who are not restricted by what they already know, what has been done before, or what others believe to be possible.

You might be a great fit if:

• You learn extraordinarily quickly.
• You enjoy solving difficult problems with incomplete information.
• You naturally break problems down to first principles.
• You build things because you are curious about whether they can be built.
• You are comfortable being wrong, learning quickly and trying again.
• You care deeply about the quality of your work.
• You want feedback and are equally comfortable giving it.
• You can communicate clearly with people very different from yourself.
• You want responsibility rather than supervision.
• You would rather create something than inherit a finished system.

What we value

• Mission alignment.
• Exceptional subject matter ability.
• The ability to execute in ambiguity.
• A builder mindset.
• A willingness to be on site, close to the hardware and the people building it.
• We believe in radical candour. High performing people should be able to challenge one another, give direct feedback and change their minds when the evidence demands it.
• We also believe that the strongest teams are built from different perspectives, backgrounds and ways of thinking.

What you will get

• The chance to work on technology that very few people in the world ever get close to.
• Direct exposure to exceptional engineers and technical leaders.
• Real ownership.
• Real hardware.
• Real problems.
• A very steep learning curve.
• And, if you are exceptional, the opportunity to build a career with us after university.

Who should apply

We are interested in outstanding students from leading universities across the Germany and Europe, including Oxford, Cambridge, TUM, LMU and others, however:

• Your university matters less than your ability.
• Your degree matters less than what you can do with it.
• Your experience matters less than how quickly you can learn.
• We are particularly interested in people who can point to something they have built, researched, competed in, broken, redesigned, coded, tested or taught themselves simply because they wanted to understand whether it could be done.

Security and Eligibility Requirement

Due to the nature of the work we undertake, applicants must be a EU/Nato/German citizen, and be eligible for German Security Clearance.

One final thing

If you are looking for a comfortable internship with a clearly defined playbook, Hypersonica probably is not for you.

If you want to spend your internship surrounded by exceptional people trying to build technology years ahead of where most believe it should be possible, we would like to hear from you.

Come and build something that does not yet exist.
