Intern Distributed Design Optimization (f/m/x)

THE BEST INTERNSHIP IN THEORY - AND IN PRACTICE.

SHARE YOUR PASSION.

World-leading technologies don’t make it into a BMW until they’ve undergone one of the most challenging journeys imaginable. It takes dynamic teams with outstanding technical skills to take them from the drawing board to the road. That’s why our experts will treat you as part of the team from day one, encourage you to bring your own ideas to the table – and give you the opportunity to really show what you can do.

Our team at the BMW Group focuses on distributed design optimization, a promising approach for coupled optimization in the early phase of car design across our multidisciplinary organization. We develop mathematical methods to accelerate and stabilize the convergence of our distributed design optimization framework, especially when dealing with integer variables from practical applications.

What awaits you?

• You help drive the digital transformation and support the early-stage virtualization of overall vehicle development.
• Furthermore, you support the research and implementation of the latest mathematical concepts from non-linear, mixed-integer programming to accelerate convergence towards the optimal design.
• In addition, you help add representative distributed design problems to our existing benchmark.
• Moreover, you support the evaluation of the simulated design process, help identify insights into the coordination of distributed systems, and contribute to proposing algorithmic improvements.
• Furthermore, you help implement software features that improve the user experience of our Python framework.

What should you bring along?

• Studies in mathematics, computational engineering, computer science or a related field.
• Profound knowledge of mathematical numerical optimization and/or non-linear programming (mandatory).
• Practical experience in object-oriented software development with Python is advantageous.
• Structured way of working with a high degree of self-motivation and independence.
• Very good English or German language skills.

Are you passionate about mathematical optimization and eager to shape the digital transformation of vehicle development? Then Apply now!

What do we offer?

• Comprehensive mentoring & onboarding.
• Personal & professional development.
• Flexible working hours.
• Mobile work.
• Attractive & fair compensation.
• Apartments for students (subject to availability & only at the Munich location).
• And much more, see bmw.jobs/waswirbieten

Start date: Earliest start date 16.11.2026
