Software Development Engineer for Flight Physics Capabilities / Loads & Aeroelastics (d/f/m)

You will be a key developer for our internal loads simulation software. In this role, you will bridge the gap between flight physics domain knowledge and software engineering. You will participate in all phases of the software lifecycle—from defining simulation requirements and architectural design to implementation, automated testing, and deployment. Your code will directly enable engineering teams across Airbus to calculate and evaluate aircraft loads accurately and efficiently.

Our Benefits for You

• Fair Compensation & Extras: Attractive remuneration and individual additional benefits, such as company pension schemes, mobility offers (e.g., bike leasing), or corporate discounts with partner companies in accordance with our current guidelines.
• Time for You (and Your Loved Ones): 30 days of annual leave based on our collective agreement (35-hour week); work-life balance through flexible working hours (flextime), mobile working, part-time options, job sharing, and sabbatical opportunities.
• Growth Made Easy: Excellent professional development opportunities and international, group-wide career perspectives.
• Feel Good at Work: On-site company doctor; comprehensive health programs (sports courses, preventive care, etc.), canteen and cafeteria, and local childcare facilities at selected locations.
• Diversity Connects: Work in a diverse environment with more than 140 nationalities, where exchange, mutual support, and inclusion are part of our DNA.

Your tasks and responsibilities

• In-House Simulation Tool Development: Design, code, test, deploy, and continuously enhance our internal simulation software dedicated to aircraft loads and aeroelastics.
• Algorithm & Architecture Design: Implement advanced numerical methods and physical models into clean, high-performance, and modular code.
• Requirements Translation: Collaborate closely with Flight Physics loads engineers to translate complex aerodynamic and structural load requirements into efficient software algorithms.
• User Support & Tool Maintenance: Provide technical support to internal engineering users, troubleshoot simulation issues, and optimize software performance and usability based on user feedback.
• Engineering Best Practices: Apply modern software engineering standards, including peer code reviews, CI/CD, version control, and comprehensive testing to ensure simulation accuracy and code reliability.

Desired skills and qualifications

• Domain Background: Degree in Aerospace Engineering , Aeronautics , Computational Engineering , Physics , or a related field with a solid understanding of flight physics, aircraft loads, or structural mechanics.
• Hands-on Programming Skills: Strong coding abilities and solid experience in object-oriented programming (OOP) using Python , C++ , or C# .
• Systems & Infrastructure: Experience working in Linux environments . Practical knowledge of High-Performance Computing (HPC) , parallel computing, or aeroelastic simulation workflows is a major advantage.
• Software Engineering Practice: Solid foundation in modern development workflows, including Git/version control , unit testing , and CI/CD practices .
• Problem-Solving & Mindset: A passion for translating physical engineering problems into robust, automated software tools.
