Aufgabenbereich:

• Wissenschaftliche Forschung im weiteren Bereich neuartiger Rechnerarchitekturen unter Einsatz konventioneller und neuer Technologien
• Veröffentlichung, Präsentation und Verbreitung von Forschungsergebnissen
• Lehrverpflichtung im Umfang von i. d. R. 4 SWS

Einstellungsvoraussetzungen:

• Überdurchschnittlicher wissenschaftlicher Hochschulabschluss (Master oder vergleichbar) in Informatik, Elektrotechnik, Mathematik oder einem verwandten Fachgebiet
• Erfahrung in der Modellierung und Simulation auf Schaltungsebene (z. B. SPICE), idealerweise für „Compute-in-Memory“-Architekturen (CIM) oder unkonventionelle Rechenparadigmen wie probabilistisches Rechnen (p-Bits)
• Kenntnisse über neue Bautechnologien (z. B. nichtflüchtige Speicher) und deren Bauteil- und Schaltungsmodelle
• Erfahrung in den Bereichen Computerarchitektur sowie Modellierungs- und Simulationswerkzeuge (z. B. gem5)

In the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics in the Department of Computer Science – Research Group Computer Architecture – the following position is to be filled as soon as possible

Research Assistant (f/m/d)

(Salary level according to 13 TV-L)

with 100 % of the regular working hours. This is a qualification position within the meaning of the German Act on Fixed-Term Research Employment Contracts for Academic Staff (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz “WissZeitVG”), which serves to promote a doctoral procedure. The position is, depending on the qualification achieved to date, initially limited for a period of three years. An extension is generally possible within the time limits of the “WissZeitVG”.

The research group, led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Asif Ali Khan, works at the intersection of emerging computing architectures and compilers, using both conventional and emerging non-volatile memory technologies. Its research areas include in-memory and near-memory computing as well as the development of modeling and simulation frameworks and cost models for these novel systems. The group is particularly interested in hardware/software co-design and cross-stack optimizations for application domains including, and beyond, machine learning.

Duties and responsibilities:

• Scientific research in the broader area of novel computing architectures using conventional and emerging technologies
• Publishing, presenting and disseminating research results
• Teaching duties usually amounting to 4 teaching hours (SWS) per week during the lecture period

Recruitment requirements:

• Excellent scientific university degree (Master or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or a related field
• Experience in computer architecture, ideally including unconventional computing paradigms such as near-memory and in-memory, computing, and with modeling and simulation tools (e.g., gem5)
• Knowledge of compiler frameworks (e.g., LLVM/MLIR) and proficiency in C/C++

We also expect:

• Independence and a solution-driven work attitude
• Willingness to collaborate and work in a diverse environment, including on topics beyond your main research area
• Fluency in English; German is a plus
