Scientist / Researcher – Nanoscale Sensors, Device Modeling & Signal Processing

Tasks

• Characterize electrical and noise properties of nanoscale sensors and beyond-CMOS devices
• Model their physical and electrical behavior using analytical and numerical approaches
• Validate models against experimental measurements and use them to identify relevant physical mechanisms
• Develop basic electronic circuits and interfaces for sensor readout
• Integrate sensors with electronics, data acquisition hardware, and experimental platforms
• Develop signal-processing methods for extracting relevant information from noisy sensor signals
• Collaborate closely with technicians and other scientists to connect device fabrication, electrical properties, and system-level performance
• Document results and contribute to scientific publications, conference presentations, and project reports

Profile

• Master's degree, or equivalent academic background in electrical engineering, electronics, physics, nanotechnology, computer engineering, or a related discipline
• For a Postdoc position: a completed PhD in a relevant field
• Strong interest in nanoscale devices, semiconductor technology, and sensor systems
• Experience with electrical characterization and, ideally, noise measurements
• Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and device modeling
• Basic knowledge of analog and/or digital circuit design
• Ability to independently design experiments, analyze data, and draw physical conclusions and find creative approaches to solve complex scientific and technical problems
• Strong communication and teamwork skills in an international, interdisciplinary environment
• Experience with signal processing, time-series analysis, or data acquisition is desirable
• Programming experience, e.g., Python, MATLAB, C/C++, is advantageous
• Experience with device simulation tools, e.g., COMSOL, is a plus
• Experience with machine learning or AI-based data analysis is highly welcome
• Excellent English communication skills are required; German is an advantage
• You are not expected to be an expert in all these areas. We value a strong foundation in one or more disciplines and the motivation to work across disciplinary boundaries.

Additional Information

• The position is suitable for a PhD student or Postdoc, depending on qualifications and experience. The PhD degree will be awarded by Technische Universität Dresden, one of Germany’s Universities of Excellence. - This position is deliberately located at the interface between device physics and complete sensor systems. You will not be limited to a single research topic. Instead, you will have the opportunity to investigate how nanoscale devices behave, understand their noise and physical limitations, model their electrical characteristics, develop appropriate electronics, and ultimately turn their signals into useful information through appropriate signal processing and data analysis.
