Your tasks

THE TEAM AND ROLE

As an Engineering Team Lead , you will combine technical and people leadership, taking ownership of both your team’s performance and the technical direction of its work.

You will lead a team of approximately 4–10 engineers across Frontend and Backend and build a focused, high-performing team that consistently ships high-quality software into production.

You will coach and develop engineers, set a high bar for engineering quality, and define the technical direction for your domain. You will make pragmatic decisions around architecture, priorities, technical debt, and reliability while balancing immediate product needs with the long-term health of our platform.

This is not a purely managerial role. You will stay close to the technology, step into hands-on work where needed, cut through complexity, and ensure your team keeps moving toward the highest-impact outcomes.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Set the technical direction and architecture for your team’s domain
Build a high-performing engineering culture with strong ownership, accountability, and high standards

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field from a top-tier university, or an equivalent track record of technical excellence
6+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong track record of building and shipping production software
3+ years of experience leading and developing software engineers and providing technical direction to a team
Strong software engineering fundamentals across system design, architecture, code quality, testing, and reliability
Experience making architectural and technical decisions for complex software products
Full-Stack experience or the ability to confidently operate across Frontend and Backend is preferred
Strong technical judgment and the ability to make effective decisions in a fast-moving environment with incomplete information
High degree of ownership and drive, with a bias toward action and getting things done
Pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset with a strong focus on outcomes
Fluent in English; German is a plus

Variety in your tasks and the opportunity to take ownership
An international, informal team structure in a motivating start-up atmosphere, allowing you to participate directly in our customer growth story and the overall success of Avelios
Ability to gain valuable hands-on experience in a startup backed by leading international VCs
Support for your personal development through continuous learning and feedback
Set your own rhythm with flexible working hours and trust-based time tracking
A virtual stock option package (VSOP) that lets you participate in Avelios’ long-term value creation
A monthly meal allowance up to 75 euros, full coverage of the Deutschlandticket, Urban Sports Club or a subsidized Wellpass membership, a bike leasing program and Corporate Benefits that give you access to discounts from a wide range of providers in various areas
